Port de Cargese is a marina located south of Calvi in the northwestern part of Sagone Bay in Corsica. Well protected by a 200-meter-long breakwater facing northeast and a lee-side reef marked by lights, it offers 235 berths for boats up to 18 meters in length. The marina offers electricity and water hookups, weather information, a gas station, and a supermarket where you can stock up before setting sail. In front of the marina, there are several restaurants where you can enjoy freshly caught seafood.

Coming from the north, prominent landmarks are Cap Rossu and the Tuselli headlands, which must be rounded while maintaining a distance of approximately 300 meters from the coast to avoid the numerous rocks, shoals, and islets lying off them. Once past the last headland, continue to the stone breakwater that encloses the port’s entrance. Approach by staying 150 meters south of the breakwater to avoid the exposed rocks. Coming from the south, pass Cap da Feno along the Gulf of Sagone, from which you can already make out Cap Rossu, the Tuselli headlands, and the town of Cargese, which overlooks the harbor with its two bell towers.

Enter the harbor by proceeding at low speed in a westerly direction; after passing the north pier, turn left toward the fuel station and await instructions from the Harbor Master’s Office. Entry is not recommended in strong southwesterly winds. Access to the harbor is permitted only during daylight hours.

Cargese is a small town built on a promontory, originally founded to house the Greek community exiled to Corsica during the Genoese rule. The more modern part of the town stretches along the state highway, where there are several hotels and restaurants. The old town, with its narrow alleys and light-colored houses, is reminiscent of a Greek island.

Local attractions are the two churches in the village as well as the beaches of White sand and crystal-clear water stretching north and south. Notable beaches include Chiuni, Topiti, and Menasina. On the beach Plage du Pero North of the town of Cargese, a popular spot among surfers, you can rent windsurfing equipment, kayaks, and surfboards. The Cargese area is ideal for boat trips and scuba diving. From Cargese begins a hiking trail to Mount Cinto, the highest elevation on the island, which reaches 2706 m above sea level.
