Do you need to sell your boat? You are in the right place! yachtdigest.com is in fact the largest online portal on recreational boating and in this section you will be able to write your ad for free if you want to sell your boat. Adding a new sales message is very simple and intuitive as is finding a boat you are interested in buying, but to make your listing even more appealing, we want to give you some general but important pointers that you can follow if you wish.

First of all, try to personalize your ad, describing the history of the boat and perhaps the reason why you are selling it, this way you will gain more trust from the reader.

You can call it “half-new” if it is almost new, or “used” by specifying whether or not it is in good condition. It indicates the condition of the engines, the year of registration, how many owners it has had-most importantly, it indicates whether the boat has been owned by a single owner: it increases interest to those reading the ad.

The goodness of your craft must shine through in your message, because before you can convince someone, you yourself must be convinced that the product is good.

It is important that no spelling errors are made in the advertisement, so reread the message well before putting it online. The language then must be clear and simple, understandable to all.

It serves to attract interest and induce the reader to continue reading; it is the most important part and should summarize in one line the whole message we want to give. Unfortunately, you don’t have much chance to stand out much except with something really original to attract attention. So focus on truly original details of the boat, its real qualities: in the yachtdigest.com portal this brief summary will appear by hovering over the picture of the boat with the mouse.

It is important to clearly include the general record of the vessel. Always enter: shipyard, model, length, width, draft, engines, number of cabins, year of construction, price.

In the boat sheet accurately enter all boat details, standard and extra equipment. It is useful to communicate many details and details for those who are really interested and will continue reading beyond the first few lines.

Suggest to the reader who wants to buy the best features of your craft, and do not indicate-unless it is necessary to inform the buyer in advance-information that might negatively influence the reader.

Always indicate the price. Unless you absolutely do not want to deal, we recommend adding the words “price negotiable” which gives an incentive for the buyer to contact you.

    Safety Warnings

    • On this portal there is NO exchange of money in any form ..
    • Check the seller’s reputation through reviews, feedback or through craft registration bodies.
    • Make sure the seller actually exists. Ask for his name, Address, and phone number. Call him at several hours to verify who is picking up the phone and how your call is answered.
    • Never send a photocopy of your ID to someone you only know by email or phone.
    • Always request documentation of the boat and engine number from the seller and let the manufacturer verify it.
    • A request for prepayment often means an attempt at fraud.
    • This applies as much to cash transfers (e.g., via Western Union, MoneyGram, Escrow) as it does to SEPA wire transfers.
    • If you are in doubt, we recommend depositing your money in a trust account (at your discretion). That way the seller will receive his money only after your desired boat has arrived in agreed condition.
    • In case the offer seems too good to be true, it is probably just the case.
    • Please be cautious with international affairs.

    Recognizing a scam

    • Selling a boat against prepayment without the possible acqurenta ever having seen it.
    • It is not possible to contact a seller directly or by phone.

How can I recognize a fake buyer

    • Does someone contact you by email to buy a boat directly, without inspection?
    • Does someone offer you a higher price than your bid?
    • Has the possibility of carrying out transportation through a transportation company and assuming the cost been mentioned?
    • Is it not possible to contact the seller directly or by phone?
    • Is the potential buyer located in a foreign state?
    • Was the first contact made by text message?

    Scam cases (examples)

    • “Fictitious” enterprises
    • Phishing / fishing for user’s password
    • Check scam/fraudulent currency exchange payment
    • “Rip-Deal” scam / fraudulent foreign exchange operation

    Fictitious enterprises

Always check the true existence of the enterprise, including through the proper channels, (checking the VAT number, checking through the CCIAA, and possible check of financial statements).

Maximum precaution: the existence of the entire enterprise is probably only virtual. Seemingly professional Internet sites are easy to create and easy to delete.

    Phishing mail

You receive an Email from a fake Yacht Digest sender. It usually follows an invitation to send your user information.

This is about impostors in action. By making your data public, a third party can access your account and activate scam attempts by logging in.

Yacht Digest will never invite you to declare your login information. If in doubt you please contact the team at info@yachtdigest.com

    Check scam/fraudulent currency exchange payment

You put a boat up for sale. Responding to the advertisement contacts you a buyer from abroad. The buyer would like to purchase the vessel without viewing it.

You later get a check that exceeds the purchase price. The customer apologizes for accidentally writing too high a check and begs you to send the excess via Western Union.

When the check is cashed at the bank at first the amount is credited. After the bank’s time-consuming verification, the check is cancelled, as it is not covered. In the meantime you refunded the excess or you should perform this transaction through Western Union or similar institutions.

At the time the payment was made it was irrevocably lost.

“Rip-Deal” scam / fraudulent foreign exchange operation

Rip-Deal is an illicitly sourced currency exchange business. The impostor uses different stratagems, all with the goal of deceiving the victim financially.

In this way a “Rip-Deal” develops.

Often the attention of impostors is aroused by advertisements (e.g., boat ads). Usually the scammer contacts the potential victim.

After the initial contact is made, a meeting is arranged-usually abroad. During the meeting, the impostor moves away from the topic and talks about the currency exchange or cash transaction.

The victim is offered Euros and/or U.S. dollars in exchange for Swiss francs or vice versa. Sometimes the impostor pretends that it is laundered money to justify the need for the exchange operation carried out surreptitiously.

Regarding delivery, there is no limit to the imagination of the scammer.

    • Counterfeit or facsimile money instead of real money.
    • Exchange an empty briefcase.
    • Bundles of counterfeit banknotes arranged, placing a single genuine banknote on top of each bundle.
    • Colored so-called “dry washable” banknotes.

    Features

Fraudulent foreign exchange operation is recognizable when:

    • The hypothetical interested party requests from you as the seller to pay the brokerage fee and percentage in cash.
    • The total transaction must be carried out in cash.
    • Disproportionate future benefits are suggested to her.
    • The meeting point for delivery is set abroad (Northern Italy, France, Spain, Turkey or Benelux).
    • Meeting point.
    • The hypothetical interested party wants to meet you in a public place.
    • The meeting point and deadline set are changed in a short time.
    • The hypothetical interested party accepts the price for the item listed on your listing without verification and/or inspection.
