Cala di Pozzarello is a place and a name that evoke history and tradition. It refers to a part of the peninsula, in the Province of Grosseto, where the historic center of the town overlooks the sea. In fact, the cove is a natural inlet framed by several hills. Poggio Pozzarello, Poggio Calvello, and Monte Calzolera are the hills that slope down toward the Tyrrhenian Sea, forming the inlet of Cala di Pozzarello.

The area, which is identified as part of a scenic resort region, is associated with the territory owned by Porto Santo Stefano—a well-known tourist destination on the Tuscany Riviera. Pozzarello, a locality within the municipality of Monte Argentario, is thus a combination of several localities and is the part that offers travelers a guaranteed stretch of beachfront.

In fact, as you sail into the vast cove, you can use the area as an anchorage for your boats, allowing you to enjoy the sea for diving and swimming and to easily reach the beach. The seabed, which is particularly sandy offshore and muddy in places, provides a good anchorage.

Despite this, due to the growing number of small boats using the anchorage, it is easier to take advantage of the buoy mooring system. In fact, the anchorage is spacious compared to the stretch of coastline, which is fairly crowded even during peak season. There are no support services in the cove.

It is mainly used as an anchorage for boats on the move or for small Sailing Boats taking trips lasting just a few days, with stops along the way to explore Tuscany starting from Grosseto. This stopover, which often lasts just a few days—or even a couple of nights—is made solely to enjoy the famous sunset that is so fondly remembered by those who have visited Pozzarello.

Especially when heading inland—perhaps to visit the villages that line the cove—you can look out toward the sea and be amazed. In fact, the elevated vantage point offers a stunning view of the cove. It’s framed by hilltop villages, with their distinctive medieval fortresses and lush greenery, which stands out against the sea below.

A postcard-perfect scene that, when bathed in the setting sun, reveals shades of indigo and lilac, beautifully reflected on the hulls of the moored boats. During the day, since the beach area doesn’t offer many activities for tourists, it’s a good idea to take a boat ride to visit the oldest and most famous parts of the villages of Pozzarello and Calvello.

The must-sees undoubtedly remain the Pozzarello Fort, the Calvello Tower and the beautiful Church of the Holy Trinity.

Cala di Pozzarello, thus does not live in the shadow of Porto Santo Stefano, but enhances its profile, with an inlet dedicated to the beauty and charm of inland tourism, with stretches of great relaxation and special accompanying frame.
