Description

Fetovaia Bay is one of the most famous and popular anchorages on the Island of Elba, both by sea and by land. The crystal-clear water and white sand of the beach, framed by Mediterranean scrub, create a postcard-perfect landscape of contrasting colors. The wind on this side of the island is usually very variable, alternating between gusts and lulls that make life difficult for sailors but draw them in inexorably.

Fetovaia Bay is located in the southwestern part of the island of Elba, in the center of the stretch of coastline known as the Costa del Sole. The bay is protected to the south by a long, narrow, low promontory composed of red rocks covered with Mediterranean scrub, which stretches out over a long stretch of sea and provides natural shelter from most winds. The bay remains exposed to southeasterly winds but offers good shelter from all other winds and is a safe anchorage even in strong mistral winds.

Approaching Fetovaia Bay for an anchorage presents no particular dangers or difficulties. The seabed is sandy, about twenty meters deep at the entrance, and slopes gently toward the beach. About 200 meters from the shore, the depth is 5–10 meters. Anchoring in the bay is permitted on the right (northern) side, while it is prohibited on the southern side beyond the buoys. The approach channel for tenders is located on the north side of the bay and must be used at all times to ensure the safety of swimmers, who are particularly numerous during the peak summer season.

Fetovaia Beach is a half-moon of white granite sand, surrounded by rocks and bordered inland by dense pine forests and woodlands.
