Since the second half of the 18th century, the Cala Gavetta cove has served as the historic port of the Maddalena Archipelago. Originally established as a military outpost by the House of Savoy, the port of Cala Gavetta is the heart of the historic center of the town of La Maddalena, providing direct access to Piazza XXIII Febbraio. The port is located in the southern part of the island. The marina is protected by a breakwater facing southeast and by an angled groyne oriented south-southeast/southwest. The marina is managed by the Municipality of La Maddalena.

The Port of Cala Gavetta has 140 berths available, distributed among floating docks:

  • Indoor berths from 5 to 30 meters;
  • Outside berths from 15 to 30 meters;
  • 20 buoys located in the stretch of water in front of the outer breakwater provide boat mooring facilities.

Boats with a maximum length of 50 meters with a maximum draft of 7 meters may moor.

The Port of Cala Gavetta offers a variety of services to boaters: water, electricity, restrooms and showers, Wi-Fi internet access, boat hauling and launching, a diver, and separate waste collection. The port has a fueling station located at the entrance, open from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Located in the center of La Maddalena, it offers easy access to all kinds of tourist services (car, scooter, and bicycle rentals), supermarkets, marine supply stores, as well as bars and restaurants. The marina is the ideal starting point for visiting the island’s historic center and is very popular and lively during the summer season. From La Maddalena, you can also reach the island of Caprera by land.

When entering or leaving the port, you must contact the Maritime Authority on VHF channel 74 and pay attention to the maneuvers of the ferries connecting the island with Palau.
The port of Cala Gavetta is open 24 hours a day, but mooring assistance is available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The maximum speed within the port is 3 knots.
