The Cala Galera Marina: A Boat Slip in Tuscany

The port of Cala Galera was one of the first ports to be built. It is located in the eastern gulf of the same name on Monte Argentario, about 3 km northeast of Porto Ercole.
It is a modern port offering nautical assistance and 670 berths for vessels ranging from 6 to 50 meters, with 635 meters of quays and 12 piers (one of which is floating).

Each dock is equipped with a 220/380V power outlet and a water connection. To enter the Cala Galera Marina, you must sail along the southwestern coast of the Argentario, as the harbor is sheltered by its promontory, and access is unaffected by any weather conditions. On the contrary, the unique structure of the breakwater prevents the only potential hazard—the Scirocco wind—allowing all types of vessels to enter and exit without any problems.

Shipbuilding and landing

The port has shipyards that handle boat maintenance and repairs. The shipyard has two travel lifts with a capacity of up to 80 metric tons and a slipway with a capacity of up to 300 metric tons, and it also offers ample space in the innermost area.

Boats are moored using chains attached to mooring buoys and guide cables. Each vessel is equipped with rings or bollards on the docks. To prevent the formation of stagnant water and backwash inside the harbor, the piers are supported by prefabricated columns made of reinforced and centrifugally cast concrete.
Below sea level, there are three openings that allow for continuous water circulation and exchange. Beneath the Control Tower, there is a fueling dock for premium gasoline, diesel, and mixed fuel.
The Control Tower at the harbor entrance monitors and coordinates traffic and assigns berths along the dock to boaters. Communications between the Control Tower and the boats are transmitted on VHF Channel 9 both day and night.

During the summer, the Tower posts weather conditions and any warnings of storms or thunderstorms on its bulletin board. Only vehicles with a pass issued by the Port Authority are allowed to enter the port area. Even non-member boaters with berths can request a pass from the Port Authority. The port is protected by a fire suppression system and fire extinguishers.
