After heavy swells from the southwest and west (causing the green entrance light to be submerged), shallow waters form along the extension of the breakwater head
Between the green and red lights, near the obstructions, there is a reduction in water depth where the seabed is less than 2 meters deep, over a stretch extending approximately 80 meters from the green light toward the center of the harbor entrance (and continuing into the outer harbor, along the breakwater).

Description

Viareggio: Ports of Tuscany in Versilia

Located along the terminal section of the Burlamacca Canal, an outfall of Lake Massaciuccoli, the Viareggio marina consists of a forebay, between the breakwater and the north pier, and six docks for landing various types of boats

  • New Dock: Located to the south, in the innermost part of the harbor basin. It is primarily reserved for commercial and fishing vessels and has a water depth of approximately 3.5 meters. Recreational boats undergoing repairs may moor at the first section of the dock.
  • Madonnina Dock: This is the port area designated for recreational Sailing Boats and Motor Boats. The water depth is 3.5 meters. Managed by Viareggio S.p.A., it has 570 berths for boats up to 16 meters in length.
  • Darsena Italia is a mixed-use area, part of which is dedicated to the mooring of recreational boats and, as the name implies, to shipyards. The entrance is via Darsena Europa.
  • Darsena Europa: quay for mooring recreational boats. The water depth is 3.5 meters. It can be accessed directly from the outer harbor.
    Some areas are reserved for Port Authority, Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza boats.
    Maximum boat length: 80 mt.
  • Darsena Tuscany: the Maestri d’Ascia e Calafati pier, managed by Lencisub, is dedicated to recreational boating for vessels ranging from 11 to 14 meters, while the Borbone pier is designated for fishing boats. The water depth is 3 meters.
  • Lucca dock: small boats can dock here.

About 80 berths are reserved for boats in transit.

95% of boat traffic occurs between May and September. It is therefore strongly recommended that you reserve your berth at the marina well in advance.

Anchorages in the roadstead outside the harbor

If necessary, it is possible to drop anchor outside the port. Due to breakers that form when the sea is coming from the third and fourth quadrants, it is recommended to establish an anchorage offshore, about 1 mile from the port.

Accessing the ports of Viareggio

Proceed 1,000 meters north of the northern light and continue toward the center of the entrance. Within the entrance area, it is recommended to maintain a course between the center of the entrance and the red light and to pay close attention to the water depth.

Throughout the port basin, the seabed ranges, on average, from 3 to 5 meters deep.
